Antioxidant effect
Free electrons can interact with positively charged free radicals. In this context, a potential reduction in oxidative stress and downstream inflammatory processes is discussed.
Fundamentals
Grounding means creating a conductive connection between the body and the Earth. For brands, this creates a technical approach for advancing performance and recovery products functionally.
Start a technology conversationWhy grounding?
The human body is conductive because of its fluid and electrolyte content. Throughout evolution, there was often direct contact with the ground; modern plastics, rubber, asphalt and synthetic surfaces, by contrast, act as insulators. Grounding creates a conductive connection between the body and the Earth and can make free electrons from the Earth’s surface available.
In research, these electrons are discussed, among other things, in the context of oxidative stress, inflammatory processes and blood-flow properties. For sports applications, it is essential that these mechanisms do not remain abstract but can be translated into product architectures.

An increased zeta potential of red blood cells can reduce their aggregation. Improved flow properties could be relevant to oxygen transport, heat dissipation and recovery.
It is discussed as a hypothesis whether external electrons could influence the mitochondrial electron transport chain. This assumption should be clearly presented as a hypothesis in product and study concepts.
For Wirey, grounding is not a standalone accessory but an integrable functional layer: conductive textiles, liners, sole concepts, sleep systems and measurement setups can be combined so that brands can develop their own performance narrative.
